NPRC CONGRATULATES AMBASSADOR MARI CARMEN APONTE ON HER SENATE CONFIRMATION

“This long overdue confirmation was a collective effort we will repeat”

WASHINGTON, DC  (June 14, 2012) -  The National Puerto Rican Coalition  (NPRC) today congratulated the extraordinary efforts by Hispanic community leaders, the Obama Administration, Senator Harry Reid, Senator Bob Menendez, and Secretary Hillary Clinton to confirm Mari Carmen Aponte as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. With a 62-37 victory in the Senate, Ambassador Aponte is set to resume the role she vacated last December.

“We are extremely proud and 62 times happy to finally see Ambassador Aponte confirmed in the Senate. We commend the unwavering effort by members of the Obama Administration, Senator Reid, Senator Menendez, Secretary Clinton, and the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda for getting the job done, “ said NPRC President and CEO Rafael Fantauzzi. “This is not only a win for the Hispanic community but a win for the United States of America.”

“During her recess appointment Ambassador Aponte had proven that the United States can lead in Central America by building constructive diplomatic bridges and promoting democracy,” stated NPRC Board Treasurer Jaime Areizaga-Soto. “Ambassador Aponte is a well respected citizen of Puerto Rican descent; she embodies the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect that are at the core of diplomacy and global leadership,” Areizaga-Soto noted.
