NATIONAL PUERTO RICAN COALITION APPLAUDS DOJ AND FBI DRUG AND CORRUPTION OPERATIVE ON THE ISLAND

Washington, DC – The National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC) praised the efforts of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to dismantle the destructive forces of drug trafficking and corruption on the island of Puerto Rico.

“Puerto Rico is facing an increased wave of criminal activity due to corruption and drug trafficking driven by the economic crisis that the island continues to experience,” said Rafael A. Fantauzzi, President & CEO of the National Puerto Rican Coalition.”The majority of the population are law abiding citizens, but it is these very small group of rotten apples that tarnish our image and inhibit our progress.”

In an operative executed yesterday by federal agents, 133 police officers, prison guards and US Army officers were taken into custody after several months of monitoring and investigation. “NPRC commend the efforts of Attorney General Eric Holder and the FBI in conjunction with their partner agencies on the Island to protect the American citizens of Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans want to feel safe and protected; our community welcomes justice and accountability.” said Fantauzzi.
