Something remarkable happened last week in the second oldest city in the Americas, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Two important communities with little obvious connection suddenly came together by force of history, shared values and a vision for a future with deep transnational bonds.
A group of more than 30 Jewish and mainland Puerto Rican leaders journeyed to the island as part of a broader inter-group initiative launched by AJC’s Latino and Latin American Institute, and co-sponsored by the National Puerto Rican Coalition and the Hispanic Federation and by the small but influential local Jewish community, the largest in the Caribbean. The delegation included politicians, entrepreneurs, educators, and community and social activists from across the US.
