Public Policy

NPRC's public policy initiatives have been at the forefront educating community advocates, elected and appointed officials, and the mainstream community on issues affecting the social fabric and safety net of the most vulnerable. NPRC's public policy analysis on issues concerning the Puerto Rican and Latino community is recognized by national organizations and advocates as being valuable to the work they perform. Working in coalition with other national policy groups and advocates, NPRC serves as a convener, catalyst, facilitator and resource for the community at large. We provide leadership and a voice on national policy to address the needs of the Puerto Rican community and empower our constituency to become effective participants in the formulation of public policies. This work has included the development of a national public policy agenda; the preparation of reports on the impact of legislative changes to federal benefit programs; the issuance of demographic profiles for 92 members of Congress with significant Puerto Rican populations, and the publishing of the National Directory of Puerto Rican Elected Officials, which identifies 95 officials of Puerto Rican heritage elected to federal, state, and municipal legislative offices on the mainland.
